Vienna State Opera Live Stream 2017: Jonas Kaufmann & Angela Gheorghiu Team Up For ‘Tosca’

By David Salazar

Angela Gheorghiu and Jonas Kaufmann will headline the Vienna State Opera’s upcoming live stream of Puccini’s “Tosca.”

The event, which will take place on May 8, 2017, kicks off at 7 p.m. local time, ending at 9:45 p.m. local time.

Kaufmann and Gheorghiu have performed many times together, most famously in this very opera in a production from the Royal Opera House that was released on home video. That run featured Bryn Terfel as the hateful Scarpia, but this performance will star Marco Vratogna, who recently performed alongside Kristine Opolais and Marcelo Alvarez in Baden-Baden.

After this run of “Tosca,” Kaufmann will head to London to begin preparing his role debut in Verdi’s “Otello.” Gheorghiu will sing a few concerts in Liège and Poland. She will also be singing “Adriana Lecouvreur” in Palermo. Next season she has “Tosca” lined up in Vienna, London, and Hamburg.

Tickets can be purchased via the company’s official streaming site, starting at 14 euros apiece. Subscribers will be able to see the opera free of charge since it is sponsored by OMV, a sponsor of the Vienna State Opera.
