Vienna State Opera 2016-17 Live Stream Preview: Juan Diego Flórez & Aida Garifullina As Star-Crossed Lovers in Gounod’s ‘Roméo et Juliette’

Juan Diego Flórez returns to live streams world wide on Wed. Feb. 1, 2017 in a performance of Gounod’s “Roméo et Juliette” starring Aida Garifullina under the baton of Plácido Domingo live from the Vienna State Opera.

The performance kicks off at 7 p.m. local time and runs through 10 p.m. (around 1 p.m. for those on the Eastern Standard Time and 10 a.m. for those on the Pacific Time zone).

Flórez was recently featured on a live stream for the company on Jan. 13 for Bellini’s “La Sonnambula.” While that performance saw the Peruvian tenor in a role that he has owned for years, this one will feature a role that he is relatively new to. He first sang Gounod’s opera in 2014 in Lima, Peru before reprising it a year ago in Vienna. This is just his third run as the Shakespearean hero.

Garifulina is a star in ascension, recently releasing a new solo album and this is her first crack at the role of the star-crossed lover. Other cast members include Gabriel Bermúdez and Dan Paul Dumitrescu.

Tickets start at 14 euros (approximately $15 USD) and can be purchased right off the Vienna State Opera’s streaming website. There are options for monthly subscriptions to future performances on the service depending on users’ preference for experience opera from the comfort of their homes.
