This was an April Fool’s Joke, clarified by the company via Twitter. Apologies for anyone that was excited by this announcement.

Utopia Opera’s 2017-18 was released on its Facebook page this past week. The company’s productions will be staged by William Remmers, in English, and will have a chamber orchestra accompanying the performances.

To kick off the season, “Tosca,” by Giacomo Puccini, will be the first production on Sept. 8, 9, and 10.

“L’Elisir d’Amore” by Gaetano Donizetti will premiere on Nov. 3, 4, 10, and 11 as Utopia Opera’s second showcase of the season.

And then starting off 2018, “The Yeoman Of The Guard,” by W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan. will premiere on Jan. 19. This performance will include William Remmers as the character Jack Point.

“Bring Back Birdie” by Charles Strouse and Lee Adams will also be programmed on March 2, 3, 9, and 10.

And bringing the company’s 2017-18 season to an end, the company will perform “Don Giovanni,” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

The Utopia Opera is run by a talented group of friends (and sometimes strangers) who join together to create spirited representations of operatic works for the masses. They provide entertainment for opera fans and those learning.

The company is currently preparing two more productions to conclude the 2016-17 season. They include “The Ballad of Baby Doe,” which opens on May 6. The other show will be Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin,” which premieres on June 2.
