Two Sopranos Replace Lisette Oropesa At Teatro La Fenice

By Francisco Salazar

Lisette Oropesa has canceled her performances at the Teatro la Fenice.

The soprano, who was set to make her Fenice debut in Robert Carsen’s production of “La Traviata,” was forced to cancel in order to replace Diana Damrau in a new production of Meyerbeer’s “Les Huguenots” at the Opera National de Paris. The soprano stated via social media, “It is with great disappointment that I must cancel my appearance as Violetta in ‘La Traviata’ in Venice at La Fenice. I can’t tell you all how much this ‘Traviata’ meant to me and I know a lot of people were looking forward to seeing me in Venice.”

As a result, two sopranos will replace Oropesa. Claudia Pavone will take over the majority of the performances with Francesca Sassu singing one. Pavone has performed the role of Violetta throughout Italy, singing it at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Teatro Massimo Bellini, and Teatro San Carlo, among others. Sassu will get a full run of “La Traviata” next season at the Teatro La Fenice.

“La Traviata” is set to open on August 25 and runs through Oct. 9, 2018.
