Opera Steamboat Gets Started As Central City Opera Winds Down

We are past the midpoint of the summer. Some of this week’s picks are the last opportunities to check out some exciting productions. But there are also some performances that are just kicking off on the weekend!

The Face on the Barroom Floor – Central City Opera

On Friday night, Central City Opera ends the run of “The Face on the Barroom Floor,” which will star Amanda Austin, Martin Luther Clark, and Nathaniel Hill, among others. Thomas Getty conducts.

Orfeo ed Euridice – Portland Opera

Saturday night will mark the end of the run of Portland Opera’s “Orfeo ed Euridice.” The performance will star Lindsay Ohse, Sandra Piques Eddy, and Helen Huang under the musical direction of Nicholas Fox.

The Tales of Hoffmann – Opera North

Unlike most other showcases here, this is one production that will kick off its run this very weekend. On Friday, Offenbach’s famed opera will star Todd Wilander as the tragic hero with Aleksey Bogdanov as the three villains. The three heroines will be portrayed by Emily Misch, Amal El-Shrafi, Ashley Puenner, and Rachel Weishoff.

The Proposal – Opera Steamboat

On Friday, audiences get a chance to check out this comic tale about, a woman who receives a marriage proposal and discusses it with her five alter egos. The performance takes place at the Bud Werner Memorial Library Hall in Steamboat Springs.

Rigoletto – Wolftrap Opera

For just one night, the Wolftrap Opera will showcase Verdi’s “Rigoletto” at the Filene Center. The production stars Piotr Buszewski, Kidon Choi, and Mané Galoyan. Grant Gershon conducts the performance which takes place on Friday, August 3, 2018.
