This weekend is jampacked with rare operas to see. No joke. With one exception, the list consists of works you probably will struggle to find productions for at any given point a year from now. So strap in and find a way to watch these five shows. (List is in alphabetical order by company).

Euridice – Cantanti Project

The New York-based organization is slated to put on the rare Caccini opera in a production directed by Brittany Goodwin and starring Michael Celentano, Tom Corbeil, Lydia Dahling, Brittany Fowler, Marques Hollie, Aumna Iqbal, Fiona Gillespie Jackson, Elyse Anne Kakacek, Laura Mitchell, Joyce Yin, and Sara Lin Yoder. Performances take place throughout the weekend.

The Daughter of the Regiment – The Atlanta Opera

Soprano Andriana Chuchman takes on the lead role in the Donizetti classic over in Atlanta. The cast also includes Santiago Ballerini as Tonio, Stephano de Peppo as Suplice, and Stephanie Blythe as the Marquise de Berkenfield. The run kicks off on Saturday night.

Candide – Palm Beach Opera

As the world continues to celebrate the Leonard Bernstein centennial, “Candide” keeps on popping up at major companies. And why not? It captures the spirit of its creator and is definitely a way to join in on the celebration. So any chance to catch the work is a sure-fire win. The cast includes Miles Mykkanen, Alisa Jordheim, Ron Raines, Tobias Greenhalgh, Denyce Graves, Kasia Borowiec, and Derrek Stark.

Ashes & Snow – Pittsburgh Opera

The company will showcase the world premiere of Douglas J. Cuomo’s new opera, which is being dubbed as “Breaking Bad” meets Samuel Beckett. The work stars Eric Ferring and will be directed by Jonathan Moore. Performances for the show take place on Friday and Sunday.

Beatrice and Benedict – Seattle Opera

Props must go to Seattle Opera for undertaking this rarely performed Berlioz opera. Performances take place on both Saturday and Sunday, with Daniela Mack, in her Seattle debut, and Hanna Hipp alternating the lead role and Alek Shrader and Andrew Owens doing the same.
