Thomas Hampson & Isabel Leonard Out Of Two Bayerische Staatsoper Revivals

By Francisco Salazar

The Bayerische Staatsoper has undergone two cast changes in the past few days.

The first is Thomas Hampson who has withdrawn from his upcoming performances of “Così fan tutte.” As a result, Luca Tittoto will replace the baritone As Don Alfonso.

Over the past years Tittoto has become a sought-after bass, singing at La Fenice, Venice, Teatro Comunale, Teatro di San Carlo, Naples, Teatro Real, Madrid, Teatro Massimo, Palermo, Teatro Regio, Turin, Norwegian National Opera, Dutch National Opera, Bavarian State Opera, and the Rossini Opera Festival.

Hampson returns to the stage this month for a concert with Olga Peretyatko.

In addition to Hampson’s cancellation, Isabel Leonard also pulled out of the company’s upcoming revival of “La Cenerentola.”

As a result, Margarita Gritskova will take over the title role. The mezzo has quickly risen to fame over the past years and this year she has taken on a number of major assignments including her first Charlotte in “Werther” at the Zurich opera and she will take on the role of Sesto in “La Clemenza di Tito” at the Palau de les Arts. She is also set for “La finta giardiniera” in Zurich.

“La Cenerentola” will be presented from March 10 through the 16 while “Così fan tutte” will be performed from March 24 through the 29.
