The New School To Live Stream LoftOpera’s ‘Otello’

By Francisco Salazar

The New School will live stream the LoftOpera’s production of Rossini’s “Otello.”

For weeks the performance at the LightSpace Studios in Brooklyn has been sold out and as a result, the live stream will be an opportunity for audiences to see the production all around the world.

The showcase, which had its premiere earlier this week, scored rave reviews and represents a rare chance for audiences to see the rarely staged opera in New York.

The cast includes Bernard Holcomb as Otello,  Cecilia Lopez as Desdemona, Thor Arbjornsson as Rodrigo, Blake Friedman as Iago and Toby Newman as Emilia. Sean Kelly, the company’s music director, will conduct.

Loft Opera was founded by The New School alumni and has transformed the way audiences see the art form. It is making opera more affordable and is also reaching out to younger audiences who may not be interested in going to bigger houses. It is also bringing opera to spaces not usually associated with it while keeping the music at a truly high level.

The live stream will be on March 18 at 8 PM EST. There are four more performances on March 20, 23, 25, and 27 at the LightSpace Studios.
