Starting on August 31, 2017, The New Generation Festival will take over the Corsini Gardens in Florence for four days of music and opera.

The event is co-founded by the conductor Maximilian Fane and features violinist Charlie Siem as artistic director. Siem will perform throughout the weekend in Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor. That concert will also include the overture from Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia.”

The festival will also star soprano Anush Hovhannisyan and tenor Khanyiso Gwenxane in a new production of Gaetano Donizetti’s “L’elisir d’amore.” Michael Howells, a designer known for his work in film and fashion, will showcase his talents with the costumes and set design. “L’Elisir” will open on August 31 with a second performance coming on Sept. 2, 2017.

Hovhannisyan recently competed in the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition and will appear in “La Traviata” at five different opera houses in the fall.

Meanwhile, Gwenxane will appear in Dresden throughout the 2017-18 season in such operas as “Salome,” “Il prigioniero” and “Die Tote Städt.”
