‘The Flying Dutchman’ To Be Live Streamed On The Opera Platform

By Francisco Salazar
On Jan. 13 the Opera Platform will present Wagner’s “The Flying Dutchman” from the Finnish Opera.

The production by director Kasper Holten interprets “The Flying Ditchman” without four-masters, hawsers and nautical romanticism. In his production the sailor becomes an artist, trapped in the world of international jet set and tells the story of a man, driven by his inspiration and forced to live without ever finding a place called home. In the production, Holten also draws attention to Senta as well.

The cast will include Johan Reuter in the leading role as The Dutchman, Camilla Nylund as Senta, Gregory Frank as Daland and Mika Pohjonen as Erik. John Fiore will conduct the opera with the Finnish National Opera Chorus and Finnish National Opera Orchestra.

The Opera Platform is the online destination for the promotion and enjoyment of opera and is designed to appeal equally to those who already love opera and to those who may be tempted to try it for the first time. It showcases one opera per month and includes subtitles in 6 different languages. The platform has showcased works from the Vienna State Opera, La Monnaie, The Royal Opera, Teatro Regio dei Torino and Festival d’Aix-en-Provence.

The live stream will be shown at 1 pm. After the Live stream, the opera will be available on demand until Feb. 12, 2017
