The Erkel Theatre To Present Sonya Yoncheva, Edita Gruberova & Elīna Garanča

The Erkel Theatre has announced a number of star-studded concerts as the Opera House in Budapest continues its ongoing construction. Here is a look at what is upcoming. 

Hungarian soprano Eszter Sümegi  returns to the company and will celebrate her 25th anniversary; she will appear alongside guest star Rafael Rojas. The concert will include music by Verdi, Bellini, Goldmark, and Puccini. The soprano has long been a staple of the company since 1993 and was with the company for “The Queen of Sheba” in the Hungarian State Opera’s performances in New York.

Edita Gruberova takes on her iconic interpretation of Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor”  for the first time at the Budapest theater in a staged production.  The soprano performed the role with the company during its Japan tour in concert and now, 50 years after her Budapest debut, she continues performing.

Elīna Garanča makes her Erkel Theatre debut in a program that will showcase works by Verdi, Cilea, Grieg, as well as Gastaldon, Gardel, and Sorozábal.

On the last Saturday of the ball season, the Opera will once again hold its most elegant event at the Erkel Theatre. Sonya Yoncheva makes her Budapest debut in a program of Italian opera including arias by Puccini and Verdi.
