The Bayerische Staatsoper Names A New Music Director

The Bayerische Staatsoper has announced its new intendant and music director.

The company announced that starting in 2021, Belgian Serge Dorny will be the company’s intendant and Russian conductor Vladimir Jurowski will serve as music director.

Dorny currently works with the Opéra de Lyon and also worked for a short period in Dresden. Meanwhile, Jurowski served as music director at the Glyndebourne Festival and is the present music director of the London Philharmonic. He is slated to conduct “Boris Godunov” at the Paris Opera with Ildar Abdrazakov in the title role with Evgeny Nikitin and Elena Manistina.

Both Dorny and Jurowski will succeed the outstanding Nikolaus Bachler, who is retiring, and Kirill Petrenko, who will head the Berlin Philharmonic and who recently conducted Munich’s Ring Cycle.
