Tenor Kristian Benedikt In Intensive Care Due to COVID-19

By David Salazar

Tenor Kristian Benedikt has been hospitalized with COVID-19.

The tenor’s Facebook page had a message from the tenor’s wife stating, “My dear friends, colleagues, loved ones. Since there were questions about yesterday’s post, I’ll specify: yes, me and my husband we got COVID-19. Both are in the hospital (I’m in intensive care), children are home. Please pray for us, for our family, that this ends soon…Take care of yourself and your loved ones, the coronavirus is still here and it’s better to not get sick with this infection.”

In the post, the family is also asking for financial support through PayPal as both lost jobs due to the pandemic.

Prior to the lockdown, Benedikt appeared at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre and Theatre Magdeburg in productions of “Turandot.” He is scheduled to appear at the  Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre in productions of “La Juive” and  “Ernani.”

Benedikt is the latest opera star to struggle with COVID-19 following Hibla Gerzmava, Pumeza Matshikiza, Plácido Domingo, and Andrea Bocelli.

OperaWire sends its best to Benedikt and his family in these challenging times.
