Tebaldi International Voice Competition Opens Audition Process

By Francisco Salazar

The seventh edition of the Tebaldi International Voice Competition has opened its application process.

The Competition, which is taking place from Sept. 6 through 9, is divided into two sections, Ancient and Baroque repertoire and Opera from Mozart until the 20th Century.

Candidates interested in participating will have until June 10 to submit. Each candidate must submit a video and audio recording with two contrasting arias. They must contain an “aria di coloratura” and an “aria cantabile.”

Among this year’s sponsors are the Teatro alla Scala and the Teatro di San Carlo di Napoli. Judges have not been announced as of yet for the competition but in previous years big stars such as Teresa Berganza, Eduardo Muller, and Maria Chiara have served as the jury.

The competition is held every two years and it is in honor of the great Renata Tebaldi, who is considered one of the great sopranos of the 20th Century.

The Tebaldi Foundation, which created the competition, was founded in 2004 with the approval of Tebaldi and was legally recognized in 2005. Its goal is to promote cultural and musical activities of various kinds through the International Voice Competition and concerts.
