The Teatro San Carlo has announced a cast update for its upcoming production of “Tosca.”

The company noted that Jonas Kaufmann will sing the role of Cavaradossi replacing the originally announced Piero Pretti. Kaufmann will sing four of the five performances with Antonello Palombi singing the final performance on May 3.

Kaufmann’s Cavaradossi is one of the tenor’s signature roles which he has sung around the world including the Teatro Real, Royal Opera House, Metropolitan Opera, Opernhaus Zurich, and the Salzburg Festival, among others.

Palombi has performed the role at the Finnish National Opera and Cincinnati Opera, among others.

“Tosca” opens on April 20 and is set to star Oksana Dyka in the title role and Ildar Abdrazakov in his role debut as Scarpia. Juraj Valčuha conducts the production by Edoardo De Angelis.
