Teatro Real De Madrid’s ‘Bomarzo’ Production To Stream on The Opera Platform in May

By David Salazar

On May 5, 2015, The Opera Platform will showcase Ginastera’s “Bomarzo” live from the Teatro Real de Madrid.

This is the first Spanish production for the opera by the Argentine composer. The opera, his Opus 34, had its premiere in 1967 in Washington D.C. It was supposed to premiere in Argentina’s Teatro Colón that very year but the president of the country banned the opera, objecting to the sexual content throughout. It was not until 1972 that it premiered in Argentina.

This production, which is directed by Pierre Audi, is a joint collaboration with the Dutch National Opera.

This production will feature John Daszak, James Creswell, Hilary Summers, Germán Olvera, Nicola Beller Carbone, Albert Casals, Thomas Oliemans, Milijana Nikolic, and Francis Tójar.

The live stream kicks off at 1:55 p.m. EDT.

The Opera Platform is the online destination for the promotion and enjoyment of opera and is designed to appeal equally to those who already love opera and to those who may be tempted to try it for the first time. It showcases one opera per month and includes subtitles in 6 different languages. The platform has showcased works from the Vienna State Opera, La Monnaie, The Royal Opera, Teatro Regio dei Torino and Festival d’Aix-en-Provence.
