Teatro Real And Medici.tv Team Up For ‘Rodelinda’ Live Stream

By Francisco Salazar

On March 31, the Teatro Real and Medici.tv will present Handel’s “Rodelinda” on the live stream platform.

The performance will feature the new production by Claus Guth, which the director noted was inspired by a house in London in which Mike Jagger lived in. Guth also noted that he didn’t want to use a specific time period because the story of the opera was about real life people and therefore the plot could be left to any time period.

The opera will star Lucy Crowe in the title role of Rodelinda. The cast also includes Bejun Mehta, Jeremy Ovenden, Sonia Prina, Lawrence Zazzo and Umberto Chiummo. Music director Ivor Bolton will lead the orchestra.

The new production by Guth is a co-production with Ópera de Fránkfurt, the Gran Teatre del Liceu de Barcelona, and  Opéra d’Lyon

The opera had its opening on March 24 and is currently being performed by two alternating casts. Sabina Puértolas is performing in the second cast with Xavier Sabata and Juan Sancho.

“Rodelinda” runs through April 5 at the Teatro Real.
