Teatro Colón to Live Stream ‘Adriana Lecouvreur’ Starring Virginia Tola & Nadia Krasteva

By David Salazar

The Teatro Colón will be live streaming its performance of Cilea’s “Adriana Lecouvreur” on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, starting at 8 P.M. local time.

The performance will feature soprano Virginia Tola in the lead role. Tola opened the production on March 14, stepping in for famed Soprano Angela Gheorghiu, who canceled the production after a public dispute with the company. After this performance, Tola has just one more in the title role before handing over the final presentation to Sabrina Cirera.

Tola, who was born in Santo Tomé, Argentina, has performed all over the world, her talents taking her to Rome, Torino, Trieste, Washington, Los Angeles, Madrid and Brussels among others.

Other cast members for this performance include Leonardo Caimi as Maurizio, Alessandro Corbelli as Michonnet and Nadia Krasteva as the Princesse de Bouillon.

This run was supposed to be Gheorghiu’s debut at the famed company, but the soprano dropped out, posting a lengthy statement on social media regarding the company’s lack of professionalism. The Teatro Colón responded by stating that “for artistic reasons, the Romanian soprano Angela Gheorghiu will not opening the 2017 opera season at the Teatro Colón with her interpretation of Adriana Lecouvreur.” The company never elaborated on the reasons behind the falling out.
