The Teatro Colón has responded to Angela Gheorghiu’s cancellation.

Via Facebook, the Argentine opera company said, “The Teatro Colón reports that for artistic reasons, the Romanian soprano Angela Gheorghiu will not opening the 2017 opera season at the Teatro Colón with her interpretation of Adriana Lecouvreur.”

The company continued noting that “soprano Virginia Tola who will perform the leading role on March 14, 18, 21 and 26. Meanwhile, soprano Sabrina Cirera will perform March 19 and 25.”

Angela Gheorghiu immediately responded to the post stating that she had canceled due to the company unprofessional comportment. On Wednesday, the soprano wrote a lengthy statement on her own Facebook page, calling out the theater for its lack of professionalism. She did note that she was hoping to return to Buenos Aires at some point in her future.

“Adriana Lecouvreur” will see Leonardo Caimi and Gustavo López Manzitti alternating the role of Maurizio while Nadia Krasteva and Guadalupe Barrientos will alternate the role of the Princess of Bouillon.

Angela Gheorghiu is slated to reprise her Adriana Lecouvreur at the Teatro Massimo di Palermo and will also perform a recital at the Opera Royal de Wallonie.
