Swarovski To Partner With Salzburg Festival For Aida

By Francisco Salazar

Swarovski will once again partner with the Salzburg Festival for the upcoming “Aida.”

The glass manufacturer, which was responsible for Anna Netrebko’s dress for her concert performances of “Manon Lescaut” and the Cat suit in “Faust” last summer, will create jewels for Anna Netrebko and will use Swarovski crystals for many of the costumes worn by the principals.

The idea for the jewelry comes from the Dutch costume designer Tatyana van Walsum, who worked for a year on the designs. It was revealed that the title character’s costumes will have dark glass to remind viewers of the moonlight while Amneris’ costumes will have bright stones with yellow-stitches.

“Aida” opens on August 6, 2017, with Anna Netrebko in the title role and Ekaterina Semenchuk as her rival Amneris. Francesco Meli will debut the role as Radamès and Luca Salsi will sing the role of Amonasro. Riccardo Muti will conduct the Vienna Philharmonic in a production directed by Shirin Neshat. The opera runs through August 25, 2017, with Vittoria Yeo and Yusif Eyvazov also starring in later performances.
