‘Svadba’ To Premiere At The Opéra De Montréal

By Francisco Salazar

The Opéra de Montréal will present the Montréal premiere of “Svadba (Wedding).”

After the success of the work in Toronto in 2012, which earned the Dora Mavor Moore Award and led to a Canadian and European tour, “Svadba,” an a cappella chamber opera, will be presented in Montreal, the adopted home of its creator, Ana Sokolović.

The new production will star current young artists of the Atélier Lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal including Myriam Leblanc as Milica, Suzanne Rigden, Chelsea Rus, Rose Naggar-Tremblay, Caroline Gélinas, and Rachèle Tremblay. The performers will sing without accompaniment, aside from some percussion played by Carol-Anne Fraser, under the direction of Dáirine ní Mheadra.

The work will be performed at ESPACE GO, a theatre that has given a voice to women artists and which sets a new course for Opéra de Montréal as it continues to be open towards other Montreal cultural institutions and a desire to further its reach across the Montreal area.

“Svadba” will be performed from March 24 to the 31.
