Susanna Phillips, Stephen Costello, Elizabeth DeShong Lead Metropolitan Opera 2017 Summer Recital Series

By David Salazar

Even though the Metropolitan Opera’s 2016-17 season ends in mid-May, the Company is not completely closed for business this summer.

In fact, the Met will continue its 2017 Summer Recital Series, now in its ninth year, with six free concerts all across the five boroughs featuring some of the world’s greatest singers.

First up are two recitals on June 12 and 14 starring Susanna Phillips, Stephen Costello and Elizabeth DeShong with pianist Daniel Saunders. Phillips was the star of this season’s “L’Amour de Loin” while Costello had a strong season with performances in “Rigoletto” and “Roméo et Juliette.” The first concert will take place at Central Park while the latter will be showcased at Brooklyn Bridge Park.

The final four recitals will take place on June 16, 17, 23 and 24 at a number of different venues. The first is set for Clove Lakes Park on Staten Island, the second will be at Crotona Park in the Bronx, the third at Jackie Robinson Park in Uptown Manhattan and the final one will be exhibited at Socrates Sculpture Park in Queens. These recitals will feature Saunders alongside soprano So Young Park, tenor Petr Nekoranec, and baritone Hyung Yun.

Attendance to the concerts is free of charge.
