For those who missed the Silver Gala from Baden Baden on New Years Eve, Arte will present it on March 19, 2017.

The concert, which rung in the New Year starred Sonya Yoncheva and Piotr Beczala and was condcuted by Yoncheva’s husband Domingo Hindoyan.

The concert was divided into two parts. The first included popular arias and duets from opera including selections from Gounod’s “Faust” and Massenet’s “Manon.” The second part included music from operetta and popular Italian songs.

Yoncheva recently cancelled a production of Massenet’s “Manon” at the Opera de Monte Carlo due to back problems. The soprano is slated to return to the stage in Verdi’s “La Traviata” at the Metropolitan Opera. Following performances of the opera she will appear at the Met Opera for the company’s 50th Anniversary gala. She will also sing “La Traviata at the Bayerische Staatsoper.

Beczala is currently performing the title role in Massenet’s “Werther” at the Liceu where he encored the enthusiastic audience. He is scheduled to sing Puccini’s “La Boheme” later this season at the Staatsoper Berlin and he will return to the Prague National Opera for a run of Dvorak’s “Rusalka.” He is also slated to perform at the Metropolitan Opera’s 50th Anniversary gala.
