Social Media Beat-Week (1/1-6) : Pretty Yende Meets Oprah Winfrey While Javier Camarena Says Goodbye to Count Almaviva

By Francisco Salazar

With the weekend coming up lets take a look at what some of our favorite stars were up to this week

Pretty Yende

Yende had the week of her life as she was rehearsing for the revival of Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” and in the middle of the week she got to perform on the Late Show for Stephen Colbert. Not only did she conquer the audience on the show but she also impressed with her vocal fireworks. And for Yende the highlight was meeting an idol of hers, Oprah Winfrey.

Javier Camarena

For Javier Camarena the first week of the year kicked off with rehearsals of “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” with Pretty Yende. Along the way he announced that the upcoming three performances he will be singing at the Metropolitan Opera will be his final run of the role and that after six years of performing it he was happy to say goodbye to it. He ends the week taking over the Met’s Instagram and showing backstage photos of “Il Barbiere.”

  Anna Netrebko

Netrebko spent her first week of the year in Am Semmering skiing with her family and friends before heading back to Vienna. The soprano showed off some amazing food including Stuffed meatballs and Donuts. And as customary, the soprano showed off some of her unique outfits.

Ailyn Perez

Perez spent her first week of the season in New York. She attended a performance of Verdi’s “Nabucco” and was interviewed on a radio broadcast about her upcoming performances as Mimi. She then spent it in the rehearsal room with Michael Fabiano in preparation for this week’s revival of “La Boheme.”

Joseph Calleja

The Maltese tenor spent the New Year in rehearsal rooms with Carmen Giannattasio for a revival of Puccini’s “La Boheme.” The two will be sharing the stage in the final performance of the run.
