Semperoper Dresden Announces Two Cast Changes For ‘Don Giovanni’

The Semperoper Dresden has announced two cast changes for the May 22 performance of ‘Don Giovanni.”

First, the company announced that Iulia Maria Dan will sing Donna Elvira in the performance replacing Hrachuhí Bassénz, who is ill.

The company also announced that Evan Hughes will sing Leporello in the performance replacing Markus Marquardt, who is also ill.

Hughes recently performed George Benjamin’s “Written on Skin” with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra at Berlin’s Philharmonie and Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie. He also performed Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” at the San Diego Opera and Semperoper Dresden.

Dan is an ensemble member at the Semperoper Dresden who has performed  “Carmen,” “La Traviata,” “Le Nozze di Figaro” and “Platée” this season.

The two singers join Ildebrando D’Arcangelo, Alexandros Stavrakakis, Elena Gorshunova, and Joseph Dennis with Omer Meir Wellber conducting.
