Selene Zanetti Replaces Christiane Karg In Munich’s ‘The Bartered Bride’

By Francisco Salazar

Christiane Karg has canceled her appearances in Bayerische Staatsoper’s upcoming new production of Smetana’s “The Bartered Bride.”

The company announced that Karg was forced to withdraw from the production because she is pregnant and as a result will not sing the December nor the July run of the opera. As a result, Selene Zanetti will take on the role of Marie.

Zanetti is part of the Opernstudio at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, which she recently joined this season. She is currently performing as Ines in Verdi’s “Il Trovatore” and is set to sing the First Lady in Mozart’s “The Magic Flute.” She will also sing Clotilde in “Norma” and is set to sing Giannetta in Donizetti’s “L’Elisir d’Amore.” Marie will be her first leading role with the company.

“The Bartered Bride” will also star Pavol Breslik and Günther Groissböck with David Bösch directing. Tomáš Hanus conducts the production, which opens on Dec. 22, 2018.
