Samantha Hankey Wins Glyndebourne Opera Cup 2018

Samantha Hankey has been named the first winner of the Glyndebourne Opera Cup.

The American mezzo was named the champion after the final on Saturday evening. She had been one of seven female finalists. She also took home the media prize.

She is coming off a solid year, having been among the winners of the Metropolitan Opera Council Auditions.

During the final she sang arias from “La Clemenza di Tito” and “La Finta Giardiniera.”

Second place went to American artist Jacquelyn Stucker and Elbenita Kajtazi took home third as well as the Audience Prize.

The Ginette Theano prize for most promising talent went to Emily Pogorelc.

The awards ceremony marks the end of the three-day competition. The 25 semifinalists made their cases throughout Thursday and Friday. Ten finalists were then selected for Saturday’s big showdown with each artist showcasing their talent in two Mozart arias.

The 10 finalists featured seven woman and three men, of which five were sopranos. A mezzo won.
