‘Salome’ To Get a Livestream From Verbier Festival

By David Salazar

The Verbier Festival will be live streaming a performance of Richard Strauss’ “Salome” on July 21, 2017.

The opera will be a concert version of the famed work featuring Charles Dutoit as the conductor of the Verbier Festival Orchestra.

Soprano Gun-Brit Barkmin will lead a cast that also includes Jane Henschel, Egils Silins and Gerhard Siegel, who recently performed the role of Herodes at the Metropolitan Opera and received rave reviews for his work. Of his performance, OperaWire wrote, “Siegel was fascinating as Herodes, giving the Tetrarch a complex arc in his own right.”

The performance kicks off at 7 p.m. local time and will be aired via Medici.tv and Espace 2.

There will also be a livestream of “Elektra” on the 27th of July.

The Verbier Festival is an international music event that takes place annually for two weeks in late July and early August in the mountain resort of Verbier, Switzerland. This year the festival runs from July 21 through August 6, 2017.
