Salome Jicia To Make ROH Debut In ‘Mitridate, re di Ponto’

By David Salazar

There has been a cancellation at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden.

German soprano Anett Fritsch, who was originally scheduled to take on the role of Sifare in “Mitridate, re di Ponto” has withdrawn and will be replaced by Salome Jicia in her Covent Garden debut.

For years the soprano had been performing in lower profile operas but performed “La Donna del Lago” and “Il Viaggio a Reims” in Pesaro for the Rossini Opera Festival over the past few years. She is just coming off a run of “La Traviata” at the Teatro GB Pergolesi and “Semiramide” at the Opéra national de Lorraine. This summer she is slated for “Torvaldo e Dorliska” and Rossini’s “Stabat Mater” at the Rossini Opera Festival. She will take on “La Traviata at the Deutsche Oper Berlin in August and is slated for runs in “Tancredi” and “La Clemenza di Tito” in 2017-18 in Brussels and Lausanne respectively.

The remaining cast members for “Mitridate, re di Ponto” include Michael Spyres, Albina Shagimuratova, Lucy Crowe and Bejun Mehta among others. Christophe Rousset will conduct the production by Graham Vick.

Frisch recently performed at La Scala, Berlin, Dusseldorf and the Salzburg Festival.
