Royal Opera House 2017-18 Live Cinema Preview: Calleja, Pieczonka Star in Puccini’s ‘Tosca’

The Royal Opera House will present Puccini’s “Tosca” live in cinemas on Feb. 7, 2018.

The performance will be broadcast around the world and stars Adrianne Pieczonka in the title role, Joseph Calleja as Mario Cavaradossi, and Gerald Finley as the villainous Scarpia.

Regarding the showcase, OperaWire praised the production by Jonathan Kent noting, “It’s humorous to think that many operagoers sigh when learning that another old production will be once again revived next season. For in some cases the performance really feels much rustier than worn-out staging. And nothing in the brochure for next season warns subscribers about that.”

After “Tosca,” the ROH will showcase a new production of “Carmen” in cinemas on March 6, followed by Verdi’s “Macbeth” on April 4. The latter showcase will star Anna Netrebko, Željko Lučić, and Ildebrando D’Arcangelo, all under the musical direction of Antonio Pappano.
