Royal Opera House 2017-18 Cinemas Preview: Anna Netrebko Leads ‘Macbeth’

By David Salazar

The Royal Opera House will present Verdi’s “Macbeth” live in cinemas on April 4, 2018.

The performance will be broadcast around the globe and will feature superstar soprano Anna Netrebko as the villainous Lady Macbeth. She will be paired with Zeljko Lucic in the title role; the two performed the Macbeths together at the Metropolitan Opera in a performance that was subsequently screened around the world and later released on home video formats.

Netrebko has drawn great reviews everywhere that she has performed the lead role, her work particularly lauded in her Met Opera renditions.

The production will also star Ildebrando D’Arcangelo as Banquo and Yusif Eyvazov as Macduff. Antonio Pappano conducts the Royal Opera House orchestra.

This performance marks the last of the cinema showcases for the 2017-18 season. Recent showcases included “Rigoletto,” “Tosca,” and “Carmen.”
