By Francisco Salazar

Rosa Feola is set to star in Franco Zeffirelli’s upcoming production of “Rigoletto.”

According to the Giornale della Musica, the Italian soprano will be Gilda in the production, which is slated to open at the Royal Opera Muscat in 2020. The news comes a day after it was announced that at the age of 97, the legendary director would direct his first “Rigoletto” since 1964.

Feola is no stranger to the role of Gilda as she made her role debut in 2012 and has since performed it all over the world including Chicago, Napoli, Zurich, and Munich.

The soprano is also scheduled to make her Metropolitan Opera debut this spring in “Rigoletto” and will also perform at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Teatro alla Scala, and Teatro dell’Opera di Roma.

Zefirelli’s new “Rigoletto” will open in September 2020 followed by revivals in Lithuania and Zagreb.
