Rolando Villazón has canceled his upcoming performances of Donizetti’s “L’Elisir D’Amore.”

The Royal Opera House announced that tenor has to withdraw due to medical reasons.

As a result, Armenian tenor Liparit Avetisyan will replace him. Avetisvan made his Royal Opera debut in the 2016-17 Season as Alfredo Germont in “La Traviata.” Recent appearances also include Alfredo Germont and Don José in Bizet’s “Carmen” at the Armenian National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet, Rodolfo in Puccini’s “La Bohème” in Frankfurt, Fenton in Verdi’s “Falstaff” in Cologne and Alfredo Germont for Opera Australia.

This is the third cancellation in a row at the Royal Opera House. On Tuesday the theater announced that Dinara Alieva had canceled Liu in the upcoming run of Puccini’s “Turandot.” Yesterday it was announced that Anett Fritsch had to step out of the upcoming “Mitridate, re di Ponto.”

Villazón is currently directing a new production of Donizetti’s “Don Pasquale” for the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and is still scheduled to perform in the Metropolitan Opera’s 50th Anniversary gala. He will also perform at the Baden-Baden Festival in the title role of Mozart’s “La Clemenza di Tito.”
