Joel Revzen will conduct tonight’s performance in the absence of Robin Ticciati, who is ill.

The Metropolitan Opera announced the news via Twitter this afternoon. The cancellation marks the second performance that Ticciati cancels as he was indisposed for Saturday’s performance.

Revzen has been on staff with the Met Opera throughout the season, covering performances for such operas as “L’Italiana in Algieri,” “Manon Lescaut,” “I Puritani,” “Rigoletto,” and, of course, “Eugene Onegin.”

He is scheduled to head to Napa Valley for the Festival Napa Valley Bernstein and will also lead concerts at Classical Tahoe.

Next season he will cover “Turandot,” “Madama Butterfly,” “Norma,” “The Magic Flute,” “Cendrillon,” and “Lucia di Lammermoor” at the Met.

Ticciati is scheduled to return on Saturday for the HD performance. Of his performance, OperaWire said, it “wasn’t a revelatory account of Tchaikovsky’s score, but every note was in its place and the overall pacing had a sense of drive. Rubati were few and far between, allowing for any tempo stretching that did occur to have greater emotional weight… The dances, which were all elegantly staged, were portrayed with quicker tempi, which only served to create the propulsive drive of the episodic narrative.”

Tonight’s cast includes Anna Netrebko and Peter Mattei in the lead roles.
