On August 6, 2019, “Robe” will make its world premiere at The Place in London.

Per a press release, the opera is full of science-fiction themes and concepts, “dramatizing the relationship between virtual reality, official history, and raw, personal experience.” At the core of the story is A.I. Edinburg, who wishes to become a city.

The work will be feature pianist and music director Ben Smith alongside flautist Jenni Hogan, Clara Kanter, Kelly Poukens, Rossie Middleton, and Sarah Parkin. The music for the work is written by Alastair White, who previously composed “Wear.” Gemma A. Williams will direct the opera alongside Pamela Schermann. Schermann is the artistic director of Opera In the City.

The opera will also feature the work of designer Michael Stewart and choreographer Max Gershon.
