Rihab Chaieb & Samantha Hankey Among 2018 Soprano-Less Operalia Finalists

Operalia has announced the 12 finalists who will win compete for the top prize at the annual competition.

Per the opera competition the finalists announced are Russian tenor Migran Agadzhanyan, Candian mezzo Rihab Chaieb, Canadian/Italian mezzo Emily D’Angelo, Portuguese tenor Luis Gomes, American mezzo Samantha Hankey, German baritone Johannes Kammler, Chinese tenor Long Long, Belarus tenor Pavel Petrov, American baritone Sean Michael Plumb, South African bass-baritone Simon Shibambu, Swiss/French mezzo Marina Viotti and Russian tenor Arseny Yakovlev.

The competition also announced five Zarzuela finalists. Mezzo D’Angelo, tenor Gomes, and Belarus Petrov were among the finalists who will also compete for the Zarzuela prize. The final two competitors will be Brazilian mezzo Josy Santos and Colombian/American soprano Vanessa Vasquez.

The final will be held on Sept. 2 and will be streamed on Medici.TV and Facebook.
