Pretty Yende To Perform With Metropolitan Opera Orchestra In 2017-18 Carnegie Hall Concert

By Francisco Salazar

Pretty Yende will perform with the Metropolitan Opera orchestra in Carnegie Hall during the 2017-18 season.

The acclaimed South African coloratura will perform Mahler’s “Symphony No. 4” and Mozart’s “Exsultate, Jubilate,” replacing the originally planned Brahms Symphony No. 4.

The program will also feature a world premiere by Carles Wuorinen entitled “Eros and Nemesis” and will be conducted by Music Director Emeritus James Levine.

Yende is currently performing the role of Juliette in Gounod’s “Romeo et Juliette” at the Metropolitan Opera. Of her performance, OperaWire wrote, “the minute Yende stepped on stage she beamed energy and youth.” The soprano has had a whirlwind season at the Met singing in Bellini’s “I Puritani” and Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” as well as making appearances on Good Morning America, the Wendy Williams Show and Late Night with Stephen Colbert.

Meanwhile, Levine is currently conducting Idomeneo, which is slated to be featured Live in HD.
