Portland Opera To Open 2018-19 Season With ‘La Traviata’

By Francisco Salazar

Portland Opera’s General Director Christopher Mattaliano has announced a “November Classic” opera to launch the 2018/19 season.

The company will begin the season in November with four performances of Verdi’s “La Traviata” at the Keller Auditorium.

The season will then continue to offer the majority of programming in spring and summer of 2019.

The new adjustment will allow the Portland Opera to build upon the established summer season, while realigning the schedule to offer programming in the autumn interval.

“All of us at Portland Opera are committed to listening to our constituents and focusing on the strength and future of our organization. We’ve listened to the feedback, and understand that our audiences enjoy opera in the summer, but also miss the excitement of attending the opera during Portland’s cold and rainy months. We are taking this message to heart and adjusting our season to add a beautiful classic in November, while continuing to strengthen our spring and summer offerings,” noted the company’s general director.

The complete season is scheduled to be released in June 2018.
