Plácido Domingo To Return To Houston Grand Opera

By Francisco Salazar

Plácido Domingo will return to the Houston Grand Opera to celebrate the reopening of the Wortham Theater Center

The gala entitled “Coming Home: A concert celebrating the return to the Wortham Theater Center” will see Domingo return to Houston where 30 years ago, he celebrated the opening of the Wortham Theater Center with Verdi’s masterpiece “Aida,” starring as Radames.

This time Domingo joins Patrick Summers and the HGO Orchestra, along with special guest soprano Ana María Martínez, for a one-night-only concert event marking the re-opening of the theater after Hurricane Harvey destroyed parts of the theater.

The concert will open the 2018-19 season, which is set to showcase “The Flying Dutchman,” “Florencia en el Amazonas,” “The Pearl Fishers,” “Don Giovanni,” and the world premiere of “The Phoenix.”

The “Coming Home” gala will be held on Sept. 26.
