Plácido Domingo, Gregory Kunde and Michael Fabiano Lead Palau De Les Arts’ 2017-18 Season

Valencia’s Palau de les Arts has announced its 2017-18 season which will feature nine operas.

The first of the bunch will be Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly,” starting on October 11 and running for five performances. The opera will feature a new production by Emilio López. Liana Aleksanyan plays the doomed heroine.

Gluck’s “Le Cinesi” follows up with a performance on Nov. 2, 2017, with Fabio Biondi conducting. Désirée Rancatore, Ann Hallenberg, and Anicio Zorzi Giustiniani lead the cast.

Conductor Ramón Tebar takes on Verdi’s “Don Carlo” in December for five performances. The production comes from the Deutsche Oper Berlin. This production will showcase Plácido Domingo as Rodrigo with María José Siri as Elisabetta and Violetta Urmana as Eboli. Alexánder Vinogradov sings Filippo while Andrea Carè plays the title role.

Willy Decker’s production of Britten’s “Peter Grimes” arrives on Feb. 1, 2018, for five performances. Christopher Franklin conducts the production, which came from La Monnaie. Gregory Kunde takes on the lead role while Leah Partridge plays Ellen Orford.

Haydn’s “Il Mondo della Luna” arrives in March with Domingo a part of the cast. Jonathan Brandani conducts and Emilio Sagi directs.

Then it’s time for Verdi’s “Il Corsaro” on April 1, 2018, with Michael Fabiano, Oksana Dyka, Vito Priante and Kristina Mkhitaryan leading the cast. Fabio Biondi conducts.

Puccini’s “Tosca” gets it times on the stage starting May 6, 2018, with Lianna Haroutounian as the doomed diva and Alfred Kim as her lover Cavaradossi.

Mozart’s “La Clemenza di Tito” gets to showings on June 25 and 28, 2018, with Fabio Biondi leading René Barbera, Eva Mei and Margarita Gritskova.

The season draws to an end with Berlioz’s “La Damnation de Faust” starting on June 20, 2018, and ending on the 29th. Celso Albelo and Rubén Amoretti lead the cast.
