PBS To Air Met Opera’s ‘La Bohème’ Starring Sonya Yoncheva & Michael Fabiano

By David Salazar

PBS will showcase Puccini’s “La Bohème” from the Metropolitan Opera as part of its Great Performances Series on Sunday, May 20, 2018.

The broadcast will kick off at 12 p.m. EDT and will showcase soprano Sonya Yoncheva as the tragic Mimì. This was the second of Yoncheva’s big season, during which she appeared on three Live in HD broadcasts. Her “Tosca” was not presented in this season’s PBS slate.

Michael Fabiano also stars with Susanna Phillips, Lucas Meachem, Alexey Lavrov, Matthew Rose, and Paul Plishka rounding out the cast. Marco Armiliato conducts the famed Zeffirelli production.

This is the latest in a season-long series that will still showcase transmissions of the Met’s Live in HD season. PBS will still showcase such operas as “Tosca,” “Luisa Miller,” “Così Fan Tutte,” and “Cendrillon.” The broadcasts will run throughout the summer in time for the Met’s new 2018-19 season, whereupon PBS will start broadcasting that season’s Live in HD transmissions.
