Famed baritone Paulo Szot will be performing at the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival this summer in “Evita.”

Szot will take on the role of Juan Perón opposite Broadway star Dee Roscioli, who will take on the title role.

Szot has built a solid career for himself over the years. Born in Brazil, Szot really made a name for himself when he starred in the Broadway revival of “South Pacific” in 2008, winning a plethora of awards including a Tony Award. He was a mainstay with the production for the ensuing years until he made a massive debut in 2010 – his Met Opera debut. In that instance, he took on the lead role in Shostakovich’s “The Nose.” From there he has been a mainstay with the company performing in such operas as “Carmen,” “The Death of Klinghoffer,” “Die Fledermaus” and “Manon.”

He has also made a number of international debuts including Teatro ddell’Opera di Roma, Milan, and London among others.

“Evita” will premiere on June 14 and runs through July 2. Additionally, the festival will be showcasing productions of “The Three Musketeers,” “As You Like It,” “Shakespeare for Kids,” “The Hound of the Baskervilles,” “Troilus and Cressida” and “The Ice Princess.”
