Juan Diego Flórez will perform Massenet’s “Werther” for the second time this season when he opens a new production of the famed opera at Opernhaus Zürich.

The Peruvian tenor’s previous run of “Werther” in Teatro Comunale di Bologna was a massive success as the tenor, in his stage debut of the opera, encored the audience after the famed aria “Pourquoi me reveiller.”

The run opens on April 2 with additional performances on April 5, 8, 11, 17, 20, 23, 27 and 30. He will be joined by Anna Stéphany as Charlotte, Mélissa Petit as Sophie and Audun Iversen as Albert. Cornelius Meister will conduct the Philharmonia Zürich. The opera is expected to last two hours and 45 minutes, including a 45-minute intermission, per the company’s official website.

Flórez has had a busy 2017, which he kicked off with a run of “La Sonnambula” and “Roméo et Juliette” at the Vienna State Opera. Both runs were streamed live to worldwide audiences via the company’s official streaming website.

After “Werther” the tenor heads to Paris for a concert at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées before finishing off his summer singing his first ever “Lucrezia Borgia” at the Salzburg Festival. Krassimira Stoyanova will star in the title role while Flórez portrays the character of Gennaro.
