Opéra Royal De Wallonie Announces Its 2017-18 Season

The Opéra Royal de Wallonie has announced its 2017-18 season with a number of classics and rarities being performed.

The season opens with Puccini’s ‘Manon Lescaut” starring Anna Pirozzi and Marcello Giordani. Speranza Scapucci conducts all five performances starting on Sept. 19, 2017.

Patrizia Ciofi, Silvia Dalla Benetta, and Gregory Kunde star in Bellini’s “Norma” from Oct. 19 to Nov. 4, 2017. Massimo Zanetti conducts Bellini’s masterpiece in a production by Davide Garattini Raimondi.

On Nov. 16, 2017, Donizetti’s “La Favorite” opens with Sonia Ganassi in the title role alongside Celso Albelo and Mario Cassi. The opera will be performed in its original French text with Luciano Acocella conducting.

George Petean and Devid Cecconi share the title role in Verdi’s “Rigoletto.” Giampaolo Bisanti conducts all 10 performances which are set to also star Jessica Nuccio and Lavinia Bini sharing the role of Gilda. The production opens on Dec. 21, 2017.

Scapucci returns to the podium for eight performances of Bizet’s “Carmen.”  Nino Surguladze shares the title role with Gala El Hadidi. Marc Laho and Mickael Spadaccini alternate as Don José in a production that opens Jan. 26, 2018.

Auber’s “Le Domino Noir” makes its Liège premiere on Feb. 23, 2018, with Anne-Catherine Gillet, Cyrille Dubois, Antoinette Dennefeld and François Rougier. The opera will run for five performances.

Mozart’s masterpiece “Le Nozze di Figaro” returns to the stage on April 6, 2018, with Mario Cassi, Judith Van Wanroij, Leon Košavic, Jodie Devos , Raffaella Milanesi, Julien Véronèse, Alexise Yerna, Julie Mossay, Enrico Casari and Patrick Delcour. Conducted by Christophe Rousset, the production will run for five performances.

Rossini’s “La Donna Del Lago” will be conducted by Michele Mariotti with Salome Jicia, Marianna Pizzolato, Maxim Mironov, Sergei Romanovsky and Simón Orfila. The opera opens on May 5, 2018, and will be performed five times.

On June 16, 2018, Leo Nucci and Tatiana Serjan will star in Verdi’s “Macbeth” with Paolo Arrivabeni conducting. There will be six performances.
