The Opera Holland Park has raised about £40,000 for survivors of the Grenfell Tower fire and victims’ families after hundreds of tickets sold out in 24 hours.

The concert, which was held on August 1, 2017, saw four soloists and members of the chorus and orchestra give their services for free for the one-off fundraiser, which took place in one of the most affluent neighborhoods of west London.

Ticket holders were said to not only pay for their ticket but also give extra donations online or in charity buckets around the venue. Proceeds from bar sales were added to the total, which went to the Rugby Portobello Trust, one of the main community organizations in North Kensington.

During the tragic fire, which killed 80 people on June 14, the OHP lost one of its members of staff, Deborah Lamprell.

In a statement addressing the loss Michael Volpe, OHP’s general director said, “Debbie was a lovely, lovely person. She had an ultra down-to-earth manner. She knew everybody here, but she also knew their mothers, sisters, children.”
