Opera Australia Cancels Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour’s ‘La Traviata’

Opera Australia has announced that its production fo “La Traviata” at Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour 2020 has been canceled in keeping with government bans on public gatherings of more than 500 people.

The run was scheduled between March 27 and April 26, 2020.

“These are unprecedented circumstances for Opera Australia and an extremely challenging time for the performing arts sector as a whole, but we understand how vital it is that we all work together to keep people safe,” stated Opera Australia CEO Rory Jeffes.

Ticket holders will be able to get a refund but can also exchange the tickets for performances later in the year or even as a donation to the company.

Verdi’s masterpiece was to feature Stacey Alleaume and Jessica Nuccio in the role of Violetta Valèry, with Rame Lahaj and Paul O’Neill as Alfredo. Michael Honeyman and José Carbéo were going to alternate the role of Giorgio Germont.
