By David Salazar

Opera America continues its busy summer, recently announcing 13 participants from the U.S., Canada, and Latin America that will join its 2017 Leadership intensive Program.

The 13 include Lyric Opera of Chicago’s director of community programs Alejandra Boyer, Austin Opera’s chief development officer Jennifer Dubin, Minnesota Opera’s assistant production director Julia Gallagher, Opera Memphis’  director of development Jason Hardy, Opera Philadelphia’s education manager Steven Humes, Opera Maine’s managing director Caroline Koelker, OPERA San Antonio’s director of administration and education Rhanda Luna, Minnesota Opera’s teaching artist Alisa Magallón, Pacific Opera Victoria’s development manager Nicole Malcolm, Ópera Latinoamérica’s executive director Alejandra Martí, LA Opera’s budget Manager Courtney Rizzo, Opera Memphis’ music director Michael Sakir and Opera on the Avalon’s manager of artistic operations Robin Whiffen.

The program selects promising professionals involved in opera administration and gives them an experience designed to improve their leadership capacity and, ultimately, advance their careers.

Those involved will meet at the National Opera Center between August 11 and 18 for a week’s worth of learning with expert faculty, that includes the CEO / President of Opera America Marc A. Scorca. The program is made possible by the support of American Express.

“The Leadership Intensive has proven to be a crucial training ground for a new generation of opera leaders who would not otherwise have access to such specialized learning opportunities or to an international network of peers,” stated Scorca. “We are deeply grateful for American Express’ continued support of this program.”
