Obituary: Norwegian Mezzo-Soprano Edith Thallaug Dies, Aged 90

Norwegian actress and opera singer Edith Thallaug has passed away on June 7, 2020.

Born on June 16, 1929, Thallaug began her career with the Studioteatret, one of the first arts organizations to open in Norway after World War II.

In 1948, she joined the Nationaltheateret, staying with them for the next 12 years. After marking her singing debut in 1959, Thallaug was engaged with Stora Teatern in Gothenburg before going on to the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm, where she performed from 1964 to 1982.

Her last performance was in 2001, and in her career, Thallaug was named a Hovsangerska in 1976, a recipient of the Griegprisen in 1977, as well as a Knight of the Order of St. Olav.
