Obituary: Beloved Soprano Eliane Lublin Dies

Soprano Eliane Lubin has passed away after fighting cancer at the age of 79.

The soprano passed away on May 1st after six months of treatment for a brain tumor.

Born in 1938, Lublin made her professional debut in the 1960s where she performed in Monte-Carlo and at the Aix-en-Provence festival.

After performing the role of  Sister Constance in Poulenc’s “Dialogues des Carmélites” at the Palais Garnier in 1972, she went on to play many smaller roles at the Opéra de Paris. Later in her career, she became the artistic director of the Théâtre Européen de la Musique.

Among her recordings are the operetta “La Vie Parisienne,” which was conducted by Michel Plasson as well as Gounod’s “Sapho’ and Bizet’s “Carmen’ with Mirella Freni and Grace Bumbry.
