Obituary: Australian Soprano Rachel Gettler Dies at 74

Australian soprano Rachel Gettler has died at the age of 74 after being ill. She passed away in Augsburg, Germany on May 36, 2022.

Born in Paris, Gettler moved to Australia where she was raised. She went on to study singing at the Guildhall School of Music in London and at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.

She began her successful career as a mezzo-soprano with over 40 main roles in both lyrical and dramatic fachs throughout America, England, Scotland, Wales, Germany, Italy, Holland, Poland, Denmark, Sweden and Australia. In 1987 Gettler switched to dramatic soprano roles.

She frequently performed with the Oslo Philharmonic, the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, Sydney Opera House, Melbourne Opera, LA Opera, Washington Opera, and Tulsa Opera. Gettler performed until the early 2000s.
